Sifu
Kathy Strissel’s training in the Wah Lum Northern Praying
Mantis style of Kung Fu began in 1995 in Boston’s Chinatown
under Sifu Bob Rosen. Over many years Sifu Strissel has been
a member of the Boston demonstration team, participating in
numerous Kung Fu demonstrations, Lion Dance performances,
and competitions throughout the Northeast and Florida. She
joined the Instructors program to teach Wah Lum Kung Fu as
part of her continued training and personal development and
became a certified Wah Lum instructor by Grandmaster Chan
in 2005. She has received many medals and accolades for her
efforts at Martial Art events in Orlando, Baltimore, and Seattle.
Currently
Sifu Strissel teaches Kung Fu in the Boston school for adults
and youth classes. In her spare time she enjoys drawing, painting,
and jewelry-making which along with the martial arts training
complement her career in science as an academic researcher
at Tufts University where she is currently studying cellular
mechanisms of obesity-associated inflammation and diabetes.
